Problems

None anymore!

After posting this site, Bob Hazelwood forwarded it on to a guy at a/d/s/. Pat responded to me and we figured out that the cutting-out problem was related to the way I had the sub wired. I had channels 7+8 bridged and driving the 310RS DVC sub wired in parallel. This resulted in a 2ohm load on an amp that is only stable to 3ohms.

I rewired the sub to have channels 5+6 and 7+8 bridged and driving each voice coil separately. No more cutting out and I can listen at ear-bleeding volumes without any noticable heat buildup at the amp.

I also discovered that I had the sub crossed over at 600hz, not 45hz as I thought. Toying with the gain and x-over freq I got the bass to tighten up nicely. As a result, I'm going to do more experimenting with firing it through the ski-hatch. I expect that it will no longer interfere with the front stereo image now that I have it wired and crossed over correctly.

For the time being I have it mounted in a Q-Logic box firing towards the trunk opening. I have not cut any new holes to vent the sound. It's adequate this way, but I think firing it though the ski-hatch will allow me to turn down the volume on the sub and give the amp and sub a little rest.
